Periodontics in Medellín
Diagnosis and treatment of gum disease and dental supporting tissues. Periodontal health is the foundation of any successful oral rehabilitation and an indispensable condition for implant placement.
How much does gum disease treatment cost in Medellín?
The cost of periodontal treatment in Medellín depends on the severity of the disease: gingivitis is controlled with one or a few scaling and root planing sessions, while advanced periodontitis requires a more extensive plan and maintenance every 3 to 6 months. At your assessment we measure the state of your gums and set the exact price.
What is periodontics?
Periodontics is the dental specialty that deals with the gums, alveolar bone and tissues that support the teeth. Periodontal disease, from gingivitis to advanced periodontitis, is the leading cause of tooth loss in adults.
In our practice, the periodontist works in an integrated way with Dr. Macareno, ensuring that before any implant or complete oral rehabilitation, the supporting tissues are in optimal condition.

Frequently asked questions
▸How do I know if I have gum disease?
The most common symptoms include gums that bleed when brushing, swollen or red gums, persistent bad breath, teeth that move or feel loose, and gums that have receded exposing more of the tooth. If you notice any of these signs, see a specialist.
▸Is gum disease curable?
Gingivitis (early stage) is completely reversible with treatment. Periodontitis (advanced stage) has no total cure, but it can be controlled to stop its progression and keep the teeth for many years with regular checkups.
▸Can I get implants if I have gum disease?
Not directly. Active periodontal disease is a contraindication for placing implants. The periodontitis must first be controlled, and once the gums are healthy and stable, the implant plan can proceed. Our team coordinates both treatments.
▸Does periodontal treatment hurt?
Scaling and root planing (curettage) is done under local anesthesia, so there is no pain during the procedure. It is normal to feel sensitivity in the following days. More advanced procedures such as periodontal surgery are also done under anesthesia.
